Started in 2016, CLAS is the WLC’s newest direct services project. Originally created to answer the question “What next?” after survivors received a final protective order, CLAS now offers holistic legal services to both new and existing clients. CLAS attorneys primarily represent survivors of domestic abuse in collateral legal issues like divorce and custody, but also offer representation in protective order hearings in jurisdictions not served by the WLC’s Protective Order Advocacy and Representation Program (POARP). Providing these wrap-around legal services prevents re-traumatizing clients, helps them achieve more family and financial stability, and decreases the likelihood that they will return to their abusers. CLAS services are free and available to anyone, regardless of gender.
